Narrative

Demon slayers, as the name suggests, are a group of samurai who hunt and kill demons. The tale revolves around a kind-hearted teen Tanjiro Kamado, who sets out to become a demon slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon. Traveling around in search of a cure to revert his sister into a human.

Setting

The events of Kimetsu no Yaiba are supposed to have occurred around 100 years ago, during Japan’s Taisho era (1912–1926). The Demon Slayer scenario is more of an old/current Japanese cultural setting, the sort where they sit on the floor and use futon beddings, as well as major-city Tokyo, where they have been significantly impacted by western technology and science, such as trains and electricity.

Creating a one-of-a-kind blend/mix that didn’t contradict the narrative and even added humorous relief. As shown in the scene where Tanjiro and his traveling buddies, Zenitsu and Inosuke, arrived in the big city and were unable to fit in. Roaming through Tokyo’s streets with their swords, completely enthralled by the surroundings.

In a world where demons still roamed the earth, devouring people. Demons, it appears, are former humans who traded their humanity for power. Possessing supernatural abilities such as super strength, magic, and regeneration in exchange for feeding on humans and their humanity as a whole, as well as the inability to stay under sunlight. It’s a little like the vampire story.

For generations, a secret society known as the Demon Slayer Corps has waged a secret war against demons to exorcise them.

Along with the powers the demons gain upon turning, they are also somewhat immortal as they can’t be killed by just any weapon but only with weapons crafted from an alloy known as Sun Steel, injected with poison extracted from wisteria flowers, or exposed to sunlight. Also, you need to be aiming for the head to truly kill a demon.

As previously stated, demons possess supernatural abilities, whereas demon slayers are completely human; nevertheless, they utilize special breathing techniques known as “Breathing Styles,” which provide them superhuman strength and resilience alongside other prowess.

Major Characters

Tanjiro kamado

Tanjiro is the series’ main protagonist, a kind teen voiced by Natsuki Hanae (Japanese) and Zach Aguilar (English). Tanjiro has a highly sharp nose that allows him to differentiate between a demon and a human, as well as a very hard head! His entire family was slain by a demon (Muzan), leaving just his sister, Nezuko, who was transformed into a demon.

As he set out on a quest to save and revert his sister to human. He studied to become a Demon Slayer, mastering the Water Breathing Style under the instruction of Sakonji Urokodaki, a former Water Hashira, Getting entangled in the demon slayer corps’ issues.

Nezuko Kamado

Nezuko, tanjiro younger sisters has been mentioned earlier in her brother's bio, so you already know about her. Voiced by Akari Kito (Japanese) and Abby Trott (English).

Nezuko was turned into a demon by Muzan. Her situation, however, was significantly different as she doesn’t act like a typical demon. Even though she has lost her humanity, she still has memories and feelings strong enough to prevent herself from killing Tanjiro, and she has been conditioned to protect humans and attack other demons. Nezuko, like other demons, has special abilities and is vulnerable to sunlight.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Voiced by Hiro Shimono (Japanese) and Aleks Le (English).

Zenitsu, One of Tanjiro's travel buddies. Coward by nature, frightened by literally everything. He hasn't reached his full potential as he only shows off his best combat skills when he's unconscious or in grave danger. I believe he will develop into a strong character once he discovers his full potential. He has exceptional hearing and fights with the Thunder Breathing technique.

Inosuke Hashibira

Voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Japanese) and Bryce Papenbrook (English).

Inosuke, the lousiest amongst Tanjiro and Zenitsu. was raised by wild animals and always wears his signature boar’s head. Always eager to jump into fights and hyped to challenge anybody he met, considering himself to be the strongest guy in the room. He fights with a self-taught Beast Breathing technique. Under the signature boar's head is a female-looking face that doesn’t suit the voice or charisma.

Demon Slayer Corps

As previously stated, the Demon Slayer Corps is a covert organization that has been fighting demons for centuries to exorcise them all. They are elite demon slayers tasked with protecting humans and ridding the world of demons.

In order to become a member of this organization, an individual must pass the Final Selection, a test used as an entrance exam to join the Demon Slayer Corps. Examinees must survive for seven days on a mountain top plagued with Demons without assistance from the outside world. Having survived this test, its shows you’re more than qualified to become a member.

Many lives have been sacrificed as a result of the test to demonstrate that it’s the real deal. Passing the test indicates that you are deserving of a place in the organization.

Muzan Kibutsuji character beginners guide to demon slayer corps by otherworlds inc

Muzan Kibutsuji

Voiced by Toshihiko Seki (Japanese) and Greg Chun (English)..

The series' major antagonist. He was reportedly the first human to be turned into a demon, and he has since worked toward his goal of becoming a perfect being by becoming immune to sunlight and having a family. Other inferior demons regard him as a god, as he bestows additional power on them with his blood and uses them to his advantage.

Muzan is a great antagonist, but he hasn't gotten much screen time in recent episodes, which I assume is because the show is still in its early stages. He believes that the Demon Slayer Corps is simply resisting the natural order of his supremacy as a demon.

The movie: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train

The success of the series’ first season led to the release of a movie sequel, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. A movie that has wreaked mayhem in Japanese theaters and around the world.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train picks up where the original anime left off. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke board a train to join Flame Hashira Kyjur Rengoku on a mission to stop a demon from haunting the train. Ufotable Studio never ceases to amaze us with its incredible animation. This sequel is a must-watch after binge-watching the series.

I wasn't a huge fan of anime from the start, and I was one of those naysayers if you know what I mean. Then I decided to give anime a go, and boy! I've become a full-fledged fan, just like everyone else. I grew up watching anime and have always enjoyed writing; I honed my skills by writing about anime as it comes naturally to me. My all-time favorite anime is FMAB.
